visual poem

August 12, 2009 § 2 Comments

For our poem, Cuong and I have chose to combine several graphic pieces of art along with Sherman Alexie’s poem, "After the First Lightning." We thought that our visual represenation combind with the words of Alexie’s poem really sets the tone for the poem and allows the reader to better envision the words. The picture is of a woman with long hair looking over a storm. Our idea of having the words go across the picture from left to right symbolizes the passing of the storm. He tried to associate certain words from the poem with the pictures such as her hair, skin, and the storm. The poem ends in the bottom right hand corner where the storm no longer exists. The idea of her facing the other way and holding herself symbolizes the fear one experiences during a first storm.
